Improvising With The Other-Than-Human
Improvising With The Other Than Human
is a relational bone structure which nourishes
creative experiments, cultural practice, care & connection.
It infuses the world with inspirational vitality and allows for generative creative collaborations with humans, rivers, images, instruments, sounds, trees, birds and ancestors of both the human and other-than-human variety.
IWTOTH is visceral noticing of being part of & responsive with the world.
As Bayo Akomolafe and others have been known to utter - we are porous assemblages.
Every 'thing' from the specific land, homes, ecologies we are breathing in and out, in and with, and the objects, beings, animals, trees, crickets which surround us and inhabit us - all - have their own agency.
So too, do our tools, instruments, food, 'thoughts', cultural practices, even the rhythms we play or which play us. Amongst, within and overlapping these intra-active fields are underlying patterns, rhythms, morphing bone structures - the inner containers.
When we improvise - we are in generative communion with that which is not us and yet is at the core of us.
Everything we create - we can not create alone.
We are intertwined with 'others', people, things, everything in intra-active processes. (See Karen Barad here for elucidation on intra-action)
Who and or what is creating what? If we are all porous assemblages how do we identify who is who, what is what and who or what to credit or blame for 'our' creations or the complex processes we are in the middle of?
If you have had a look at this site and it sparks a desire to know more reach out.
We have a number of projects bubbling including What are we? and some story telling gatherings brewing.....

2020-2021 | Fire#6 | Creative Content
This site emerged through the 2020/2021 We Will Dance with Mountains Course, with Bayo Akomolafe & Friends.
Creative collaborations continued to emerge through the next iteration of the course/festival in 2021/2022. These creations emerged out of a soup of ideas, a cauldron, a complex web of interrelated ideas. It may not make much sense to you if you have not been on the journey with us..... maybe it will ... we are curious to discover ....feel free to contact and send us your thoughts. See below for contact info. If you would like to be part of the conversation you can apply to join our communicative creative cauldron platform here.
These collaborative works emerged within a container, within a container, within a container, ad infinitum. A selection of the containers /assemblages include:
* Bayo Akomolafe & Friends' writings & work that have created a shared language out of the inspiration they have stumbled across in life experiences and borrowed from slightly older groups of kin who have developed shared understandings of the nature of reality
* The WWDWM course/festival phenomenon including all those who have participated in sharing their experience of it
*A number of groups/rooms within the We Will Dance with Mountains, mighty networks platform.
* A conversation/thread within one of the groups which became known as the Black Hole, Snake Pit, Crack, a generative container, was the smallest container within these larger vessels, worlds, complex weaving of stories, words, rhythms, images and understandings.
Thank you to Bayo Akomolafe and friends for creating a context within which creativity and inspiration can flow freely... And thank you to those who played, riffed, rambled, laughed, shed tears, risked failure, wrestled... ...........and those who did the same with all of you......
